Referees are accommodated in comfortable university residences or hotels in Helsinki for the duration of their stay, providing a convenient base throughout the tournament. The hotels offer easy access to Helsinki’s public transport network, making it simple to travel between the accommodation, tournament fields and city centre.
Staying together with fellow referees creates a friendly and international atmosphere away from the pitch, giving officials the opportunity to relax, exchange experiences and build connections throughout the week.
Located on the shores of the Baltic Sea, Helsinki offers the perfect setting for an unforgettable week of international football. During the Helsinki Cup, matches are played across the Helsinki metropolitan area, giving referees the opportunity to experience different parts of Helsinki, Espoo and Vantaa.
July is an ideal time to discover the Finnish capital, with exceptionally long summer days and daylight stretching late into the evening. During tournament week, the sun doesn’t set until around 10:30 PM, with the sky remaining light even later — giving referees plenty of time to explore after their matches. Referees can discover Helsinki’s lively city centre, visit the famous Market Square, take a ferry to the historic Suomenlinna Sea Fortress, explore the city’s beautiful islands and coastline, or experience an authentic Finnish sauna.
With international football, Nordic culture, seaside scenery and almost endless summer evenings, Helsinki provides an incredible destination for referees looking to combine their passion for football with a memorable summer experience abroad.
Referees are expected to arrive in Helsinki on 11 July 2027 and depart on 17 July 2027. Referees are responsible for arranging and purchasing their own flights to and from Finland.
Helsinki Airport (HEL) is the main international gateway and provides excellent connections to the Helsinki metropolitan area. The airport has its own railway station directly beneath the terminal, with regular I and P trains connecting the airport to Helsinki city centre in approximately 30 minutes.
During the tournament, referees will receive free public transportation, making it easy to travel between their accommodation, tournament venues and different areas of Helsinki. With an extensive network of trains, trams, buses and metro services, getting around the city and between matches is simple and convenient.

A fantastic experience with Referee Abroad, thanks to the opportunity to take part in both the Donosti Cup and the Porto International Cup. Two international tournaments that provided an extraordinary opportunity for both refereeing and personal growth. The professionalism and excellent organisation, together with the opportunity to interact with referees and football communities from different countries, made both experiences truly unique. I highly recommend Referee Abroad to any referee looking to develop, challenge themselves and experience international football. ⚽️🌍Posted on Google![]()

Referee Abroad has been an outstanding experience from start to finish. The entire organisation has a real family feel, and you’re made to feel welcome from the moment you arrive. Everyone—staff, mentors, and fellow referees—is incredibly friendly, supportive, and always willing to help you grow. Despite the warm atmosphere, the setup is also very professional. The communication is clear, the organisation is well structured, and the feedback you receive is genuinely useful for improving your refereeing. The tournaments are run smoothly and you always feel looked after both on and off the pitch. Whether you’re a new referee looking to build confidence or someone with experience wanting to challenge yourself in a different environment, Referee Abroad is a fantastic opportunity. It’s rare to find a programme that combines professionalism with such an inclusive, family-like community — but this one does exactly that. Highly recommended.+2Posted on Google![]()
