The ITE International Tournament brings international youth football to the beautiful Terres de l’Ebre region of southern Catalonia, Spain. Established in 2009, the tournament has grown into a highly regarded international event, welcoming talented academies and clubs from across Europe and providing referees with an exciting opportunity to officiate in a competitive, multicultural environment.
Previous editions have welcomed clubs associated with some of Europe’s biggest football leagues, including FC Barcelona, Aston Villa, Everton, Valencia CF, Villarreal CF, Real Sociedad, RCD Espanyol and SC Braga. With both 7v7 and 11v11 matches across several age categories, the ITE International Tournament offers referees the chance to gain valuable international experience, meet fellow officials from different countries and develop their skills on the pitch.
And the experience doesn’t end with the final whistle. Set in the Mediterranean surroundings of Terres de l’Ebre, referees can combine competitive football with the opportunity to discover the beaches, landscapes and culture of southern Catalonia — making this a memorable refereeing experience both on and off the pitch.

Referees are accommodated in comfortable local hotels in the Terres de l’Ebre region, providing a relaxing base throughout the tournament. Accommodation is arranged in twin or triple rooms shared with fellow referees, creating a friendly and international environment where officials can get to know each other and share their experiences throughout the event.
The hotels offer a convenient base for the tournament while also giving referees the opportunity to enjoy the surrounding Mediterranean atmosphere and explore the region during their free time.
The tournament takes place in Terres de l’Ebre, in southern Catalonia, a region recognised by UNESCO for its remarkable natural landscapes and biodiversity. Away from the football pitch, referees can experience a different side of Spain, surrounded by Mediterranean scenery, beaches, wetlands and the distinctive rice fields of the Ebro Delta.
The area offers plenty to discover during your free time, from exploring Amposta and the historic city of Tortosa to visiting the Ebro Delta, relaxing by the Mediterranean or experiencing the region’s local food and culture. It provides the perfect setting to combine an international refereeing experience with an unforgettable trip to Spain.
Travelling to the ITE International Tournament is straightforward, with several airports providing access to Amposta and the Terres de l’Ebre region. Reus Airport (REU) is the closest option, located approximately 80 km from Amposta, while Barcelona-El Prat Airport (BCN) and Valencia Airport (VLC) are both around 180 km away and offer a wider range of international flight connections.
Amposta can also be reached by public transport, with bus connections to the town and rail services available via L’Aldea–Amposta train station. Referees travelling internationally are encouraged to compare flights to Reus, Barcelona and Valencia before booking in order to find the most convenient connection.
Referees are expected to arrive on 24 March 2027, one day before the tournament matches begin. Referees are responsible for arranging and purchasing their own flights, giving them the flexibility to choose the travel option that works best for them.

A fantastic experience with Referee Abroad, thanks to the opportunity to take part in both the Donosti Cup and the Porto International Cup. Two international tournaments that provided an extraordinary opportunity for both refereeing and personal growth. The professionalism and excellent organisation, together with the opportunity to interact with referees and football communities from different countries, made both experiences truly unique. I highly recommend Referee Abroad to any referee looking to develop, challenge themselves and experience international football. ⚽️🌍Posted on Google![]()

Referee Abroad has been an outstanding experience from start to finish. The entire organisation has a real family feel, and you’re made to feel welcome from the moment you arrive. Everyone—staff, mentors, and fellow referees—is incredibly friendly, supportive, and always willing to help you grow. Despite the warm atmosphere, the setup is also very professional. The communication is clear, the organisation is well structured, and the feedback you receive is genuinely useful for improving your refereeing. The tournaments are run smoothly and you always feel looked after both on and off the pitch. Whether you’re a new referee looking to build confidence or someone with experience wanting to challenge yourself in a different environment, Referee Abroad is a fantastic opportunity. It’s rare to find a programme that combines professionalism with such an inclusive, family-like community — but this one does exactly that. Highly recommended.+2Posted on Google![]()
