The IberCup Andalucia in Spain recently benefited from the exceptional expertise of Stefano Braschi, a highly esteemed referee who was considered one of the best in the world at the same time as Pierluigi Collina. Braschi’s distinguished career included officiating at major finals such as the UEFA Champions League Final and numerous Serie A matches. After retiring, he took on the role of head of Serie A referees, further demonstrating his leadership and influence in the field. At the IberCup Andalucia, Braschi provided invaluable feedback and guidance to referees, drawing from his extensive experience.

Braschi was joined by a notable group of observers, including Renato Faverani, who made significant contributions as an Assistant Referee in the 2014 FIFA World Cup Final in Brazil and the 2013 UEFA Champions League Final at Wembley Stadium. Roger East, celebrated for his officiating in the Premier League, brought his extensive experience from England’s top football division. From Japan, Hiroshi Yamauchi, a prominent FIFA referee, added a global perspective with his involvement in various international tournaments. Tom Nield, known for his work in the English Football League Championship, and Federico Marchi, a leading Italian Serie A referee observer, completed the team, enhancing the quality of mentorship provided.

This distinguished group offered guidance to 40 referees from 6 different nations, helping them refine their skills and improve their performance.

Our President, Daniele Curcio, extends sincere thanks to the AIA and all participating national associations. “We deeply appreciate the collaboration of the AIA and all involved federations for facilitating the presence of such esteemed observers. Their contributions have greatly enriched the IberCup Andalucia experience for all referees.”

This collaboration between Referee Abroad and international refereeing bodies underscores our commitment to fostering global refereeing talent. The involvement of such an accomplished group highlights our ongoing efforts to elevate refereeing standards and support the professional development of referees worldwide.
